Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between rigid, semi-rigid and flexible cables?

Rigid tubes hold a fixed shape and push straight into an opening — best for shallow, in-line inspections. Semi-rigid cables bend and hold the shape you give them, so you can route around obstacles and it stays put — ideal for engine bays. Flexible cables follow gravity and existing curves, best for drains and ducts. Ralcam offers all three across the 6.2mm and 8.5mm ranges.

What probe diameters are available (3.9/5.5/6.2/8.5mm) and what fits what?

Ralcam probes come in 3.9mm, 5.5mm, 6.2mm and 8.5mm. 6.2mm is the all-round standard with the brightest image. For diesel engine glow-plug and injector bores, choose 6.2mm or smaller; for gasoline car spark-plug holes an 8.5mm probe also fits. Use 3.9–5.5mm for the narrowest bores and 8.5mm when you want a larger, brighter view and the opening allows it. Measure your smallest access hole before ordering.

What does the IP67 / waterproof rating actually protect against?

IP67 means the probe and cable are fully dust-tight and can be briefly submerged in water (up to 1m). That lets you work in wet ducts, drains, coolant lines and oil-filled cavities. It's rated for brief immersion, not prolonged soaking — don't leave the probe underwater for long periods. Important: the rating covers the insertion tube and camera head only — keep the display screen and handle dry.

What is the camera resolution / megapixels?

Ralcam borescopes use HD cameras with adjustable focus for sharp, detailed images. The exact sensor resolution varies by model and is listed in each product's specifications on its page.

How bright are the LED lights and can I adjust them?

The camera head has built-in LED lights (typically six) arranged around the lens, and the brightness is adjustable — so you can light up a dark cavity without washing out the image on shiny or reflective surfaces.

What is the field of view and depth of focus?

The wide-angle lens gives a broad field of view with a fixed focus optimized for close-range inspection (roughly a few centimetres in front of the tip). See each product page for its exact viewing angle and focal range.

Can it take photos and record video? Where are files stored?

Yes. Models with a built-in screen capture photos and video directly to a TF/microSD card (up to 32GB); you can then transfer files with a card reader or over USB. Phone-connected models save to your phone through the companion app.

What is the operating temperature range of the probe?

The probe is built for mechanical inspection, not sustained heat — always inspect engines and machinery once they have cooled. Brief contact with warm surfaces is fine; avoid inserting into running-hot components. See each product page for its rated temperature range.

How is it powered — battery or cable? What's the battery life?

Standalone screen models have a built-in rechargeable battery (up to about 6 hours of continuous use on models like the F606B) and recharge over USB. Some models, such as the N5, use a replaceable 18650 cell that is also rechargeable — so you can recharge it in place or swap in a charged spare for all-day work.

Is a memory card included and what card size is supported?

Screen models record to a TF/microSD card up to 32GB. Whether a card is included in the box is noted on each product page; if it isn't, any standard card up to 32GB will work.

What is articulation and how do I steer the tip?

Articulation means the camera tip bends on command, so you can look around corners instead of only straight ahead. 2-way models steer the tip in one plane (you rotate the probe body to reach any angle); 4-way models add a thumb joystick for full 360° control. It is what lets you inspect cylinder walls, valves and turbine internals.

Does the tip hold its position once articulated?

Some models do. Those with a probe-lock button — such as the N5 and the N3 series (N306/N308) — hold the tip at the angle you set, so you can line up and take a steady photo hands-free. On models without a lock, you simply hold the articulation while shooting.

How do I clean and store the probe to extend its life?

Gently wipe the camera head with a soft, lint-free cloth. For oil, grease, or debris from automotive or plumbing inspections, use a cloth lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol or mild soapy water, then dry it before storing. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh solvents, which can scratch the lens or damage the waterproof seal.

Is the probe repairable or replaceable if damaged?

On several models the probe is detachable, so a damaged probe can be swapped instead of replacing the whole tool — for example the H406B, M506, F606B and F606A. For fixed-probe models, contact our support team with your order number and, as a factory-direct brand, we'll handle repair or replacement in-house.

Where do you ship from, and how long will delivery take?

We ship to the US, Canada, UK, Germany, and most of Europe. You'll see an estimated delivery date right on this product page—just below the purchase button—based on your location, and we'll email you a tracking number as soon as your order is dispatched.

Do you offer free shipping?

Yes. Orders over $119 ship free with standard delivery within the United States. For orders under $119, a shipping fee is calculated automatically at checkout based on your delivery destination.

What warranty comes with my RALCAM device?

Every RALCAM inspection camera includes a 1-year manufacturer warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. As a factory-direct brand with 16 years of engineering experience, we handle all warranty support in-house—just contact us with your order number and we'll make it right.

What's your return policy?

If the product isn't right for you, you can return it within 30 days of delivery for a full refund on the item—no restocking fees and free return shipping. Just contact our support team with your order number and we'll get your return started. Items should be in their original condition and packaging.

What payment methods do you accept? Will I be charged customs or import fees?

We accept all major credit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. All prices are shipped DDP (Delivered Duty Paid)—duties and taxes are already included, so there are no surprise customs charges when your order arrives.

The lens fogs up or the image looks hazy—what should I do?

Fogging usually happens when the probe moves between temperatures, such as from a cold engine bay into a warm room. Let the device acclimate for a minute or two and it will clear on its own. Persistent haze is almost always residue on the lens—clean it with a soft cloth, and make sure any protective film has been removed from the camera head.

What do I need to do before use?

Before first use, draw the probe out of its coil slowly and evenly to avoid kinking the cable, then remove the protective cap from the camera lens. On screen models, also peel the protective film off the display.

M6X: what justifies its higher price?

The M6X is a premium 4-way articulating scope with a large 5-inch IPS screen, joystick control and a detachable probe — built for demanding auto-repair and industrial work where a bigger, sharper display and precise 360° steering save time on complex inspections.

M6X or F606B — which 4-way should I choose?

Both give full 4-way articulation. Choose the M6X for its larger 5-inch IPS screen and detachable-probe build; choose the F606B for a more compact 4-way scope at a lower price. Both suit engine and turbine inspection.
